We’re the first to admit that CBD has become a wellness buzzword lately. You may be wondering, “What is CBD exactly? Can it really help people?” And most importantly, “What can CBD do for me?”

Maybe you already know about – or even use – CBD, but would like some help explaining it to friends or family. Please share this blog post with them!

CBD 101

CBD (aka cannabidiol) is a naturally-occurring compound found in the resinous flower of hemp – the close relative of cannabis. CBD is just one of many cannabinoids found in both hemp and cannabis.

The most famous of these cannabinoids (up until now, of course) has been THC. For better or worse, it has been stealing the cannabinoid spotlight for a long time.

But CBD is finally getting its time to shine. While it doesn’t make you feel “high” like THC does, CBD does interact with your mind and body in some interesting ways.

How Does CBD Work Its Magic?

Extensive research and mounting anecdotal accounts from patients and physicians highlight CBD’s strong potential to reduce pain, calm stress, promote rest and improve exercise recovery– just to name a few.

But it’s not magic– it’s science! Hemp and other plants aren’t the only living things that produce cannabinoids. Did you know the human body makes and uses cannabinoids too?

Your Body Is Built for CBD

Our endocannabinoid system (or ECS) produces cannabinoids (endocannabinoid means cannabinoids produced inside the body) within cell membranes. It also receives cannabinoids as neurotransmitters through its receptors, which are located all over the body.

The ECS is like a general in charge of the army of systems in your body. It communicates with other body systems such as the immune system and endocrine system and tells them when to turn on and (perhaps even more importantly) when to turn off.

THC and other cannabinoids typically act as keys that can unlock your cannabinoid receptors. However, CBD interacts with these receptors slightly differently than other cannabinoids. Rather than directly unlocking the receptors, CBD acts more like a lubricant to a sticky lock. It doesn’t activate the endocannabinoid system directly, but it does influence it.

Because the endocannabinoid system acts as a taskmaster for your body’s other systems, supplementing your endocannabinoid system with CBD can help you achieve homeostasis: a sound mind and body balance.

The Human / Hemp Connection

How cool is it that our bodies are literally built to create, use, and process hemp? We have an ancient, molecular connection with this plant.

At Care By Design Hemp, we strive to bring the primal, synergistic relationship between humans and cannabinoids into our present-day wellness routines. We are proud to offer you safe, pure CBD extracts that promote homeostasis in the endocannabinoid system and are unparalleled in quality and efficacy.
