Life can be rough. How are you getting by?

If you’re having a hard time, you are not alone! Here are some tried-and-true tips to help you get out of your funk.

Stick to a Routine

Even if your routine is not your usual one, it’s important to have some expectations for yourself every day. Simple things like: Walk the dog. Eat. Take your vitamins and CBD. Bathe. Change your clothes. Meditate. Move your body. Checking off even tiny goals like this can feel quite empowering. It is nice to have to hold yourself accountable for something, even if it’s less than you used to accomplish in the first hour of your day.

Give Yourself a Break

As important as a routine can be, it’s also important to realize that sometimes it’s okay to not be okay. Need to stay in your jammies for a day? Or three? Spent an entire day on Netflix? Or working on a puzzle? Or doing even less than that? It’s okay. Give yourself a break.

Ditch the News Blues

One of the best things you can do for your mental health is to turn off the news for a bit. Maybe even a whole day or week. While it is important to stay up to date on current events, hearing about tragedies around the world can be immensely draining, especially through cable news and social media. If you and your family are safe and healthy, then stop mainlining stress. Turn off CNN, log out of Facebook, and read more thoughtful commentary on current events, or even escape with a great novel or TV comedy.

Get Outside

It is scientifically proven–sunshine improves your mood. And your body needs the Vitamin D. Even if it’s not sunny outside, giving yourself a change of scenery can be a great way to disconnect from the online world and give yourself a dose of nature– the best medicine. You’ll definitely feel better when you come back in.

Connect with Friends and Family

It is important to check in with someone outside your home at least every few days. Texting with friends, connecting on social media, or scheduling a walk together is a great way to maintain connection with your favorite people– and make sure they’re okay too!

Schedule Alone Time

Alternatively, If you’re constantly surrounded by people such as your significant other and/or your kids, make sure you’re taking some time away from them as well. There can be such a thing as too much family time! You might need to schedule some time alone to get work done, or just take some time to just connect with yourself. Doing hobbies (or just relaxing!) all on your own can be very rejuvenating for couples and families.

Ask For Help

If what you’re experiencing is more than just feeling bored, down in the dumps, or annoyed by your family, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Online counseling is a wonderful resource for those who are struggling with anxiety or depression, which is on the rise worldwide. Talkspace and Betterhelp are two great options.

If you are in danger of hurting yourself or being hurt by someone you live with, that’s an emergency. Reach out NOW to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline or Domestic Violence Hotline.
